Since Firstlight Network became part of Firstgas Group Ltd in April this year, the Network team have continued to keep the lights on for Tairāwhiti and Wairoa.
While it’s business as usual for the region’s electricity lines company, some key new roles have been created.
After several years as Regulatory and Pricing Manager, Tomas Kocar has been promoted to the position of the Network’s first ever Commercial Manager. Originally from the Czech Republic, Tomas has extensive experience in the energy sector, regulatory compliance and finance.
As Commercial Manager, Tomas will play a lynchpin role at Firstlight Network, with responsibilities including:
· Setting pricing in alignment with Electricity Authority guidelines.
· Regulatory reporting and assurance.
· Proactive engagement with consumers, commercial customers and government agencies.
· Working collaboratively with the wider Firstlight team on planning for the future of energy use in the region.
Tomas is also the lead for Firstlight Network in EECA’s Regional Energy Transition Accelerator programme, which is focused on meeting long-term carbon reduction goals.
“This is a unique and exciting role,” says Tomas. “I’m particularly interested in the opportunities and challenges in the rapidly developing renewable energy space. And, I’m keen to help support energy resilience and economic growth in my adopted home region of Tairāwhiti.”
Outside of work, Tomas is a keen triathlete who competes in ironman and multi-sport races across New Zealand.
